As a powerful corporate partner, Constellation Energy invests in and supports organizations that are working to improve the quality of life in our communities. Our efforts are not new. We trace a 190-year tradition of giving back to the communities we serve and are guided by a firm belief that our resources and employee family can have a profound and positive effect on the world around us.
Each year, Constellation Energy makes considerable financial and human capital commitments to the communities where we have significant operations. In 2008, our company contributed nearly $8 million to organizations through the following corporate programs:
Corporate Giving
Volunteerism
Employee Giving
Corporate Giving
Constellation Energy partners with – and provides its philanthropic resources to – non-profit organizations that make an impact in several key focus areas.
Energy Initiatives
- Energy Assistance for Limited-Income Families
- Home Energy Conservation
We collaborate with organizations whose missions are to serve limited-income families through energy-related financial assistance, conservation programs, and referral services. These programs must also further promote and enable their clients’ future self-reliance. The activities of our partner organizations range from direct financial assistance and help with household budgeting to home conservation and weatherization efforts.
Environment
- Habitat Preservation and Restoration
- Conservation and Demand Reduction
We contribute resources to organizations that are making tangible strides in ensuring our environment’s future health. Our partners’ work directly impacts habitat restoration and preservation, the conservation of natural resources, pollution prevention, global climate change, and other critical issues. We also support efforts that encourage our community’s collective environmental awareness and personal action.
Education
- Higher Education and Job Training for High School Students
- Professional Workforce Development
We support organizations that prepare students to graduate from high school – ready to enter the workforce or to continue their studies in higher education. Our partner organizations provide high school students with the tools to maximize their potential for professional and personal success. These tools may include mentoring and internship opportunities, scholarships for future study, or education programs that address a specific area of learning.
Economic Growth
- Business Growth and Retention
- Economic Stimulus through Neighborhood Revitalization
We support organizations that focus on stimulating economic growth in the regions where we have significant business interests. This work includes recruiting business operations to a region, assisting in the expansion and retention of businesses, and assisting in the development of new significant business enterprises. We also partner with non-profit organizations that have a track record of attracting financial investments in our regions through neighborhood revitalization and other efforts.

Volunteerism
Many of our employees volunteer through company-sponsored non-profit service projects through our Power of Caring program, donating numerous hours of service to our communities. Projects range from feeding the poor and rebuilding homes to mentoring at-risk youth and cleaning up streams. Our leadership helps drive our collective purpose by serving on the boards of more than 200 charitable organizations and foundations.
Supporting the Red Cross is another long-standing tradition among Constellation Energy employees. For many years, our company has held at-work blood donation drives at multiple company locations across the country. In 2007, employees donated more than 2,400 pints of blood through over 40 company-sponsored blood donation drives in central Maryland alone.
Employee Giving
Each year, Constellation Energy employees enthusiastically participate in the annual United Way campaign. In 2008, our employees contributed more than $2.6 million. To complement this tremendous giving, Constellation Energy matches $.50 of every dollar donated by employees. This combined 2008 generosity resulted in $4.1 million of charitable giving to various United Way chapters and local charities around the world, placing Constellation Energy as the largest corporate giver to United Ways in central Maryland; Calvert County, Maryland; Oswego and Rochester, New York. Our voluntary United Way giving program is supplemented by an ongoing program of matching employee gifts to institutions of higher learning. Last year, our matching gift program resulted in nearly $1 million of contributions to colleges, universities and other qualifying organizations.
