As one of the nation’s premier nuclear power plant owners and operators, Constellation Energy is demonstrating that nuclear power is reliable, cost-effective and environmentally friendly. Our nuclear power strategy balances the present with the future. We continuously work to safely improve production at our five operating nuclear units, which produced 60.9% of the power we generated in 2007. We’re working to provide the framework to help build the next generation of nuclear power plants.
Our efforts were recognized when President George W. Bush visited our industry leading Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant and delivered an energy policy speech advocating the development and building of new nuclear power plants and reinforcing the significant role that nuclear power will play in our nation’s energy future.
Nuclear energy offers many benefits:
-
It is our nation’s largest source of emissions-free electricity and our second largest source of power.
-
The 104 operating U.S. nuclear units supply roughly 20 percent of all electricity produced nationwide.
-
It is clean with virtually no emissions, which helps keep the air clean, preserve the Earth’s climate, avoid ground-level ozone formation and prevent acid rain.
-
It is efficient and cost-effective because of stable fuel prices, high plant performance, modernized plants, and renewal of plant licenses
Constellation Energy’s nuclear generation division operates five reactors at three power stations.
