 | Constellation NewEnergy's load response programs give commercial customers financial rewards, either in the form of dollars or energy bill credits, for using less energy on days when regional power grids are under stress. View our load response products How Does Load Response Work? On certain days of the year, the demand for energy can skyrocket, resulting in a spike in wholesale energy prices. Customers who participate in a load response program, sometimes called demand response, agree to shut down or reduce their energy consumption for a specific period of time to make more energy available on the regional power grid. This helps prevent blackouts and power failures. In return, participating companies receive a payment for energy that they curtailed. This system of exchanging energy use for incentivized compensation is called load response or demand response. Read our common questions and answers. Products We work with load response customers to help them efficiently curtail energy usage: turning off lights, shutting down machinery, changing temperature set-points or changing production schedules. Some commercial customers also utilize installed self-generation systems, allowing them to use emergency backup generators during a load response event (a grid emergency). This also mitigates stress on the regional power grid. | | |
