COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTRIBUTIONS

In 2004, we donated $10 million to community and environmental groups. We were the largest philanthropic corporate giver in Central Maryland and the largest contributor to the United Way in Maryland and in Oswego, N.Y. We committed $3.6 million to 166 United Way chapters across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. That included $2.4 million from our employees.

Our major contributions and commitments included:

  • $3.1 million in-kind land value donation to the Anne Arundel County Parks & Recreation Department for a community park.
  • $400,000 to Port Discovery and the Maryland Science Center to support educational and economic development initiatives.
  • $300,000 to the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay to support a carbon sequestration tree planting program.
  • $250,000 to the Chesapeake Bay Trust for its 20th anniversary.
  • $100,000 to the American Red Cross to construct a new disaster/emergency command center.

Our major sponsorship commitments made during 2004 included:

  • Extending our PGA TOUR Champions Tour sponsorship of the Constellation Energy Classic through 2007.
  • Becoming the title sponsor of the Baltimore-Annapolis stopover of the 2006 Volvo Ocean Race.

CONSTELLATION ENERGY CLASSIC

Record attendance-more than 35,000 spectators-and support at the second annual Constellation Energy Classic helped raise $400,000 for four Baltimore area non-profit organizations. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Kennedy Krieger Institute, the Living Classrooms Foundation and the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins Hospital each received $100,000 from the golf tournament, a stop on the PGA TOUR Champions Tour.

Over two years, the Baltimore Classic Fund has raised $700,000 for local charities. In addition, the 2004 event brought an estimated $35 million into the region's economy.
