Bedford Park, Illinois, Chooses Constellation to Supply Low-Cost Electricity to Residents
August 3, 2012
CHICAGO (Aug. 3, 2012) - Bedford Park , Ill., has chosen Constellation, a business unit of Exelon Corp. and a longtime competitive energy provider in Illinois, to supply residents with low-cost electricity following a competitive bidding process under the state's electricity choice aggregation program.
"Constellation is proud to offer residents in Bedford Park fixed-price certainty and the hassle-free low rates we offer all customers," said Bruce Stewart, chief marketing officer for Constellation. "As a national energy leader with deep roots serving Illinois businesses, we look forward to continuing to invest in Illinois communities by offering a range of competitive market benefits to residents and small businesses."
The village board voted unanimously on Friday, July 27, 2012 to purchase electricity from Constellation, an alternative retail electric supplier.
Village officials indicate the 24-month term at a rate of 5.384 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) is approximately 30 percent lower than Commonwealth Edison's BES residential (non-electric space heating) rate of 8.32 cents per kWh representing estimated savings of $250 for a typical single family home using 10,000 kWh annually, and $500 during the entire term of the contract.*
Electric service under the newly negotiated rate is scheduled to begin as early as November 2012.
Constellation will work with village officials to notify all eligible customers of the electric supply rate, terms and conditions and their right to opt-out of the program. Residential and small commercial retail customers will have the right to opt-out of the aggregation program without penalty and remain with ComEd-purchased electricity. Customers who do not opt-out can also leave the program at any time within the 24-month term without penalty.
*Estimated savings are based on Commonwealth Edison's Price to Compare (PTC) for BES residential (non-electric space heating) rate of 8.32 cents per kWh in effect October 1, 2012 - May 31, 2013, which includes an Electricity Supply Charge of 7.511 cents and a Transmission Services Charge of 0.809 cents.
