Chicago Area Hilton Hotel Properties Meet Sustainability Goals, Reduce Energy Costs With Constellation's Efficiency Made Easy
October 8, 2012
CHICAGO (Oct. 8, 2012) - The DoubleTree Alsip, Hilton Lisle/Naperville and Hilton Northbrook have implemented lighting efficiency and conservation measures to collectively reduce energy use by more than 35 percent annually, supporting Hilton Worldwide LightstayTM sustainability goals. The efficiency upgrades were implemented as part of an electricity supply contract with Constellation through its Efficiency Made Easy product.
Efficiency Made Easy allows Constellation business customers to implement energy efficiency upgrades at their facilities with no up-front capital expenditure. Constellation funds and installs the upgrades as part of a short-term energy supply contract with the customer. In most cases, customers realize an immediate savings on energy costs from the installation of efficiency measures.
"These upgrades enable our hotels to meet Hilton's overall goal of reducing energy consumption by 20 percent," said Richard Brink, general manager, Hilton Lisle/Naperville. "Constellation's expertise helped us to become more efficient all around and involved no up-front costs to the hotels. Most importantly, we were able to do this in a way that was seamless to our guests."
The hotels were able to achieve additional energy cost savings through gas supply purchases and participation in demand response programs with Constellation. Learn more about Hilton's energy management strategy in this brief video.
"Energy efficiency is an essential part of an effective energy management strategy," said Michael D. Smith, vice president of solar and energy efficiency sales for Constellation. "Efficiency Made Easy offers just that -- a simple and compelling way for our customers to make their facilities more energy efficient with no up-front capital expenditure."
Energy efficient lighting and controls installed by Constellation include: occupancy sensors, LED lamps in hotel common areas, upgrades to existing T8 lighting fixtures and metal halides in parking garages. As part of the project, user-friendly digital thermostats were installed in each hotel room that allow staff and guests to better control in-room heating and cooling units.
