Constellation Energy Awarded GSA Contract for 90,000 MWh of Electricity For 17 Federal Buildings in California

March 23, 2012

BALTIMORE, March 23, 2012 -- Constellation Energy, an Exelon company, has been awarded a new General Services Administration (GSA) electricity supply contract for 17 federal buildings in California, including the Court of Appeals building in San Francisco.

The one-year contract renewal sustains Constellation's federal supply to 2.7 million megawatt hours of electricity per year, serving almost every region of the country eligible for competitive supply.

"Constellation is proud to provide competitive electricity supply to California's vital federal buildings, and welcomes opportunities to meet future clean energy needs such as the GSA solar project in Sacramento," said Louis Hutchinson, Constellation vice president, Public Sector and Energy Efficiency. In 2008, Constellation completed a 530KV solar system on the rooftop of the GSA's federal building in Sacramento, supplying 13 percent of the building's electricity needs.

Constellation's federal electricity support throughout the nation includes GSA contracts for the U.S. Capitol, Federal Reserve and Smithsonian Institution, as well as agencies in New York (including the United Nations building), Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. All GSA contracts are subject to federal competitive bid requirements.

Constellation also has an Energy Savings Agreement (ESA) with the U.S. Department of State that will contribute to President Obama's executive order to reduce federal-wide greenhouse gas emissions. The State Department and part of the White House campus expect to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with domestic electricity consumption by approximately 30 percent to 35 percent.

Constellation Energy is a federally approved provider of demand response services for both military and civilian government agencies, enabling federal sites to earn money by reducing consumption during times of peak energy demand. Constellation Energy is also one of the National Super Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) suppliers chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy to improve the efficiency of federal buildings through energy retrofit projects, energy saving performance contracts and deployment of renewable energy systems.
