Constellation Energy Powers Washington Capitals' Playoff Series

April 16, 2012

BALTIMORE, April 16, 2012 -- Constellation Energy, a leading competitive electricity supplier and proud sponsor of the Washington Capitals' playoff bid, is sponsoring the Capitals' "green games" at Verizon Center as the Caps face off against the Boston Bruins in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Constellation "greens" the games by donating Green-e Energy® Certified renewable energy certificates (RECs) to match the electricity use for each playoff game. These RECs represent the environmental benefit of electricity generated by wind and therefore avoid emissions associated with fossil fueled power plants.

"Constellation is proud to bring environmentally friendly green games to the Caps' playoff bid while also serving as the official energy provider for the Verizon Center," said Bruce Stewart, chief retail marketing officer for Constellation.

For each Capitals' home playoff game at Verizon Center, beginning with tonight's game, Constellation will donate RECs that will avoid 32 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. That's roughly the equivalent of emissions resulting from burning 74.3 barrels of oil. For more information regarding Green-e Energy® certification go to

As a proud sponsor of the Capitals' playoff series against the Bruins, Constellation also gives fans an opportunity to make a power play by taking advantage of Constellation's residential electric plans for 150,000 customers in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. These home electric choice plans offer price certainty for up to 24 months; more information is available at
