Baltimore Ravens and Constellation Team Up to Send Local Students to Maryland Science Center
February 5, 2014
BALTIMORE (Feb. 5, 2014) — Football players may have walked off the field for the last time this season, but thanks to the Baltimore Ravens and Constellation's Sacks for Science program, more than 1,700 students at 21 Baltimore-area schools will have the opportunity to explore the fields of science and technology this year. For every sack the Ravens' defense recorded during the 2013 season, 40 in total, Constellation is sponsoring a bus trip to the Maryland Science Center for students, grades pre-K through 12.
“The Baltimore Ravens are proud to work with our partner, Constellation, to provide unique learning opportunities for Maryland students interested in the science of electricity,” said Edward A. Burchell, Jr., vice president, strategic partnerships & sales for the Baltimore Ravens. “These students are the future of our region, and we are fortunate to be able to help make a positive difference to their passion for science.”
“The Sacks For Science program removes one of the biggest obstacles schools face when making field trip decisions—transportation fees,” said Maryland Science Center president Van Reiner. “We thank Constellation and the Ravens for making STEM field trips possible for over 20 Maryland schools.”
“Constellation is pleased to team with the Ravens and the Maryland Science Center for this effort,” said Mark Huston, president of Constellation’s retail business and Maryland Science Center board member. “Opportunities for hands-on learning experiences help inspire students about science and energy by making real-world connections with what’s taught in the classroom.”
In March 2014, Constellation and parent company Exelon will dedicate their Power Up! exhibit at the Maryland Science Center. The interactive exhibit will give visitors a look at the science of electricity, including alternative energy sources, a human powered-generating station, and the opportunity to “be an electricity grid manager” with simulations of electricity delivery.
