Constellation Names Pittsburgh Charities To Receive Donations as Part of 2014 Senior Players Championship

June 4, 2014

PITTSBURGH, PA (June 4, 2014) — Constellation announced today the local Pittsburgh charities that will receive grants as part of this year’s Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship, which will be held June 24-29 at Fox Chapel Golf Club.

As tournament sponsor, Constellation through the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship has provided $1 million in funding to Pittsburgh-area non-profit organizations over the last two years. These grants support a variety of local organizations and activities in the areas of education, youth development, affordable housing and family support services. Grant amounts will be announced after the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship.

“Giving back to the communities we serve is a key part of Constellation’s culture, so we’ve also made it an important part of the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship,” said Bruce Stewart, chief marketing officer for Constellation. “With our strong history and presence in Western Pennsylvania, we’re pleased to support these worthy organizations that help make such a difference throughout the Pittsburgh community in which we work and live.”

Located throughout the greater Pittsburgh area, the charities are:

YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh served more than 100,000 people last year – over 40,000 of those children – through programs promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

EconomicsPennsylvania is a not-for-profit organization specializing in K-12 economic and financial literacy programs across the state. First Tee of Pittsburgh provides young people with character-building and life skills lessons using golf as the platform.

Extra Mile Education Foundation provides scholarships and operating subsidies to keep tuition affordable for children from urban, economically disadvantaged families seeking parochial elementary schools for their quality, values-based education.

The Woodlands Foundation enriches the lives of over 9,000 children, teens, and adults with disabilities a year through programs focused on art, music, recreation and fitness, and transitional living.

The Pittsburgh Promise provides college scholarships to every graduate of Pittsburgh Public Schools who is also a city resident and who meets certain academic requirements.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh has been serving low-income families in the greater Pittsburgh area since 1986. Since 2012, it has engaged over 3,200 volunteers in the fight against poverty housing and have directly impacted 37 local families.

Tickets for Kids Charities is dedicated to enriching the lives of low-income and at-risk children and their families through inclusion in a variety of activities and events that are a source of both entertainment and inspiration.

Championship Challenge is a contest between the Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins through which the winning team makes a grant to the charity of its choice.

“The most rewarding aspect of this Championship is being able to leave a charitable footprint in the Pittsburgh community,” said Joe Rotellini, executive director of the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. “All of the hard work our volunteers and partners put into the tournament is ultimately to support these wonderful causes.”

The Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS has donated more than $9 million to charity since 1992. It is the third of five major championships during the Champions Tour season and returns to Fox Chapel Golf Club for the third time this summer.
