Constellation Helps Green Street Academy Students Become Solar Experts For The Day
April 15, 2015
BALTIMORE (April 16, 2015) — Green Street Academy students got the chance to experience a day in the life of a solar energy professional when Gary Fromer, Constellation senior vice president of Distributed Energy, and Constellation employee volunteers led the school’s 6th grade science class as part of Teach For America Week.
Fromer and the Constellation employees provided a lesson in basic solar energy concepts, then led students on a tour of the future Green Street Academy and challenged them to design a plan to use solar to power their school. Students worked in teams to determine the most effective layout for the solar panels and presented their findings to a panel of Constellation employees and Green Street Academy staff.
"Through Teach For America Week, Constellation aims to help to foster a passion and commitment for learning in students, particularly in the critical areas of science, technology and math,” said Fromer. “Constellation and our employees are committed to advancing education in throughout the communities that we touch, and to inspiring students to develop and explore interest in the energy technologies."
An annual national event since 1997, Teach For America Week invites community leaders to support educational excellence for all children. These volunteers serve as guest teachers, inspiring students with dynamic lessons informed by their personal and professional experience that connect curriculum to real life.
Constellation is Teach For America Baltimore’s largest corporate sponsor.
This year, nearly 300 Teach For America corps members are reaching more than 18,000 students in 105 schools throughout Baltimore, while over 725 program alumni are working across sectors to address issues of poverty and educational inequity.
