Local Students Tour M&T Bank Stadium After Winning Constellation’s Sacks For Science Grand Prize

April 24, 2015

BALTIMORE (April 24, 2015) — Nearly 150 Federal Hill Prep students eagerly explored M&T Bank Stadium today thanks to the Baltimore Ravens and Constellation’s Sacks for Science program. For every sack the Ravens defense recorded during the 2014 season, 49 in total, Constellation sponsored a bus trip to the Maryland Science Center for an area school group. Federal Hill Prep was randomly selected as the grand prize winner from the 23 schools awarded trips this year, and honored with a behind the scenes tour of the stadium. Students were joined by special guests Baltimore Ravens long snapper, Morgan Cox, and mascot, Poe.

“Experiential learning opportunities allow students to develop a deeper understanding of and strong skills in science, math, engineering and technology,” said Edward A. Burchell, Jr., vice president, strategic partnerships & sales for the Baltimore Ravens. “We are proud to continue our relationship with Constellation as we help mold future leaders in Maryland, our region and in an ever-changing global environment.”

“Constellation is pleased to team with the Ravens on a program that inspires students to explore science and energy,” said Mark Huston, president of Constellation’s retail business and Maryland Science Center board member. “Hands-on learning experiences are key to reinforcing what’s taught in the classroom, and we are proud that Sacks for Science has offered so many area students the opportunity to visit the museum and experience science for themselves.”

The program is in its second year and to date has funded visits to the Maryland Science Center for over 3,000 students from 44 local schools.

In March 2014, Constellation and parent company Exelon sponsored the Power Up! exhibit at the Maryland Science Center. The interactive exhibit gives visitors a look at the science of electricity, including alternative energy sources, a human powered-generating station, and the opportunity to “be an electricity grid manager” with simulations of electricity delivery.
