At Green Games We're All on the Same Side

Sports fans, teams, athletes and facilities want a clean energy future: clean air, clean water, and clean power too. The mission to promote clean energy and reduce our collective carbon footprint takes precedence over all sporting goals and rivalries. To support this mission, Constellation works closely with sports properties and communities to be more efficient, innovative, and responsible energy users. We drive sustainability at premier events like Constellation Furyk & Friends and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and host Go Green Games with teams in Chicago, Houston and Philadelphia to celebrate each organization’s efforts to protect the environment.

Constellation is the Preferred Energy Choice of United Center, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Chicago Bulls.

Go Green Games

Constellation has been the official energy provider of the United Center, home to the Blackhawks and Bulls, since 2011. Each season we host Go Green Games with both teams to promote sustainability and help home-team fans incorporate energy efficient practices into their daily routines. In addition, we donate Green-e® Energy Certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to match the electricity used on each game day. These RECs certify that 100 percent of the energy used during Go Green Games will be matched with wind generation to reduce carbon emissions. Constellation is proud to power the United Center and the Bulls and Blackhawks practice facilities.

Energy Saving Tips

During each Go Green Game at the United Center, we share energy efficiency tips with fans such as:

  • It takes more energy to cool an empty refrigerator than a full one. If you have emptied your refrigerator or freezer, consider turning up the temperature or defrosting or unplugging it.
  • Unplug your household electronics before you leave for a trip. Even when your devices are off, digital displays and other features still use energy.
  • Avoid icing – Work with the sun to maximize heat by keeping curtains open during the day to allow the sun’s light to naturally warm your home. As the sun begins to set, close them to keep warmth in and cold drafts out.

Constellation is the Official Energy Supplier of the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

Go Green Games

Constellation is proud to serve as the preferred energy choice of the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. The Space Cowboys (formerly the Skeeters) are the Houston Astros Triple-A Affiliate and have played their home games at Constellation Field since the beginning of the 2012 season. Constellation is proud to power the stadium and support the Space Cowboys on and off the field. Each season we host Go Green Games to promote sustainability and help home-team fans incorporate energy efficient practices into their daily lives.

Space Cowboys Constellation Energy Hacks

Each season, our energy savings experts provide tips to Space Cowboys fans on how they can be more energy efficient such as:

  • Washing your clothes in cold water can save you money every year. Use a cold-water detergent and cold water next time you run a load of laundry.
  • It’s true. Your dishwasher runs more efficiently when it is full. For smaller loads, try washing them by hand and make a family activity out of it!
  • Did you know … Invest in compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs: they use 75 percent less energy and last up to 10 times longer? Talk about a positive return on your investment!

Candlelighters Night

Constellation also supports Candlelighters Night at Constellation Field each year. The Houston Candlelighters provide emotional, educational, and practical support to children with cancer and their families. Each season, these kids and their families come out to enjoy a Space Cowboys game. The Space Cowboys players wear a specially designed custom jersey that is then auctioned off in support of the Candlelighters organization.

Jim Furyk, 17-time PGA TOUR Champion, former U.S. Ryder Cup Captain and record holder of the lowest single round in PGA TOUR history, has served as a Constellation brand ambassador since 2013. His competitiveness, sound approach and detailed planning on the golf course, as well as his commitment to community off the course, align with our corporate values. In 2021, Constellation expanded on our long-time relationship by supporting the inaugural Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS, a new event on the PGA TOUR Champions.

The tournament is held at Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida every October with proceeds benefitting the Jim & Tabitha Furyk Foundation. Jim and Tabitha Furyk originally launched the Foundation as a way to give back to the greater Jacksonville community that they have called home for more than two decades. Constellation made a direct donation of $500,000 to the Foundation in 2021 as part of the inaugural Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS tournament. Proceeds from the tournament support sustainability and STEM education through organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Blessings in a Backpack and First Tee.

Constellation is the Preferred Energy Choice of the Wells Fargo Center and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Wells Fargo Center: Powered by 100% Renewable Energy

Constellation has been the official energy provider of Wells Fargo Center, home of the Philadelphia Flyers, since 2016. Since 2018, the South Philadelphia arena has been powered by 100 percent renewable wind energy, which greatly reduces the facility’s carbon footprint. The power and renewable energy certificates (RECs) purchased from Constellation help Comcast Spectacor, owner of Wells Fargo Center and the Flyers, prevent the emission of more than 14,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) annually and deliver an environmental benefit equivalent to removing almost 4,000 passenger vehicles from the road.

Go Green Games

Each season, we team up with the Flyers to educate fans about energy efficiency and sustainability through public service announcements, social media messages and an annual Go Green Game.

Constellation is the Official Energy Provider of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Constellation Center for Excellence

Constellation is working with the Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Company to support the evolution and expansion of the Hall of Fame campus into a world-class sports and entertainment destination in Canton, Ohio.

The Constellation Center for Excellence is a key cornerstore of the development. Opened in 2021, the Center is a 75,000-square-foot, mixed-use facility that showcases Constellation’s energy expertise and sustainable solutions. Tenants in the building will be dedicated to sports-centric research and improving the game of football through research and technology.

Constellation provides power and natural gas to the entire Hall of Fame Village powered by Johnson Controls. The destination is also using Constellation’s Efficiency Made Easy Program to implement energy-efficient technology at the Center and other facilities on the campus with no upfront capital expense.
