Support Environmental Goals with Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
It can be challenging to find the best renewable option for your business. Oftentimes land, capital and other resources are limited, creating obstacles to deploying on-site renewable generation or pursuing other physical installations. But with the help of Green-e Energy Certified RECs, businesses can claim that they have procured renewable energy to support these goals and commitments, regardless of possible resource constraints.
Constellation has delivered RECs for customers enabling them to avoid 2.5 million metric tons of GHG in 2016.
Making RECs Work for You
NewMix® RECs are sourced from generating facilities located within the continental United States, allowing a business to buy RECs from renewable sources. RECs can be purchased as a block or as a percentage of electricity supply.
- Purchasing RECs is a simple way to support your company’s environmental goals and commitments.
- RECs allow you to make environmental claims about a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated with your electricity use, also known as “Scope 2” emissions.
NewMix® is Green-e Energy certified and meets the environmental and consumer protection standards set forth by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions. Learn more at www.green-e.org.
Your purchase of RECs supports renewable electricity production in the region of generation. For every unit of renewable electricity generated, an equivalent number of RECs is produced, and by purchasing and pairing RECs with your electricity service you are using and receiving the benefits of that renewable electricity. Your REC purchase also helps build a market for renewable electricity. Increased demand for and generation of renewable electricity helps reduce conventional electricity generation in the region where the renewable electricity generator is located. It also has other local and global environmental benefits which may include emitting little or no regional air pollution or carbon dioxide.
The RECs in NewMix® are verified and certified by Green-e Energy, and Constellation NewEnergy, Inc. is required to disclose the quantity, type and geographic source of each certificate. Please see the Product Content Label for this information. Green-e Energy also verifies that the renewable certificates are not sold more than once or claimed by more than one party.
