Why Choose a Fixed-Rate Plan in Texas?

Many residents choose fixed-rate electricity plans in Texas. These plans lock in a price per kilowatt-hour of electricity for the entire length of the contract, which usually ranges from 12 to 36 months. This means that even if market prices for electric supply spike due to current events, weather or seasonal demand fluctuations, you and your budget are protected.

Here are the key reasons fixed-rate electricity plans are a popular choice among Texans:

Stable pricing year-round

Your electric supply rate* stays the same for the duration of your contract.

Budget friendly

You can plan your spending with confidence, knowing you won’t be at risk of an electric supply price hike during hot Texas summers or winter cold snaps.

Easy to switch

Switching to a fixed-rate energy plan in Texas is simple and fast. You can often begin your plan the same day you set it up.

Ideal for renters and homeowners

Whether you rent or own, you can get a fixed-rate plan. If you’re renting, you can set up your contract to match your lease term. If you own your home, you can opt for a plan with a longer term. Flexibility makes these plans a smart option either way.

Protection from market volatility

Unexpected events beyond your control can cause wholesale electricity prices to rise. With fixed-rate electric supply plans in Texas, you can help protect your budget from these market swings.

Choose the Fixed-Rate Electricity Plan That Best Fits Your Needs

While a fixed-rate plan locks in your electric supply rate, it doesn’t limit you to one rigid contract. You can choose from several fixed-rate electricity plans in Texas so you can find one that suits your situation, household size, energy use patterns and lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fixed Rate Electricity in Texas

Fixed-rate energy plans in Texas lock in a per-kilowatt-hour rate for electricity for the length of your contract. You won’t have to worry about swings in market prices for electric supply and unexpected spikes in electric supply prices that can increase your monthly bill. This helps you to budget with confidence, knowing your electric supply rate is stable, no matter what.

Fixed-rate energy plans in Texas feature a price per kilowatt-hour that doesn’t change over your contract term. Electricity prices in variable-rate plans can change based on market conditions, spikes in demand and other factors. In times of peak demand, such as during hot Texas summers or cold snaps, you may see a variable rate increase significantly. Learn more about fixed vs. variable energy rates.

The right contract length depends on your situation. Renters sometimes prefer short-term contracts so that they have flexibility when their leases end. Homeowners, however, often choose longer-term contracts that lock in extended electric rate stability. Explore the benefits of long-term vs. short-term contracts before you decide what’s right for you.

Switching providers in Texas is easy and seamless. Your local utility continues to deliver electricity without interruption when you change providers or plans. You’ll notice the change in your billing, but there should be no break in your service. Learn more in our Texas Electric Guide.

It’s possible your current provider will charge you an early termination fee if you switch to Constellation before your contract with them ends. We can help you cover the cost up to $150 if your previous provider charges you for the switchover. Our goal is to make choosing us not just easy but also affordable.

The cost of electricity in Texas depends on multiple factors, with supply and demand being the biggest one. During the heat of summer, when air conditioning use is high, demand for electricity rises. Similarly, during cold snaps, energy use and prices could increase.

The price of fuel, broader market conditions and weather events also affect prices. You can explore when electricity rates are lowest before locking in your fixed-rate plan in Texas.

Adding home protection services with your fixed-rate energy plan in Texas is a way to conveniently and cost-effectively cover important home systems. Note that our home protection services are currently only offered in Houston and Dallas on select electricity plans.

In some cases, you may need to pay a deposit before starting your energy service. We do a soft credit check, meaning we look at your credit rating in a way that doesn’t affect your credit score. Based on the results, a deposit might be necessary, which will be returned at the completion of your contract. This is our way of ensuring a smooth start to your service while protecting your credit rating.
